![]() ![]() Now I'm kind of stuck in my troubleshooting, I don't see anything off in the ppp.log nor firewall log, and the stick seems to work fine connected directly into my PC. Conclusion: Finally, we can see that the Huawei E392 definitely a good LTE stick. But a few seconds after startup, it seems to have trouble initiating connections, making DNS resolves almost impossible, and i get all kinds of weird connection errors.įigured it was the firmware upgrade that was th culprit, so downgraded yet again to the original one but problem still exist. Now the problem is that the connection issues still exist, albeit a ping sequence doesn't seem to drop 50% of the packages. Nothing helped, so decided to go back to my original carrier (since they now had started working again). I decided that, OK, the carrier has some incompatibility with my dongle, so I looked for firmware upgrades to deal with it. Once a connection has been made, it seems to work fine (I get expected throughput on speed test etc), but since every other DNS lookup fails, internet seems half broken. Said and done, dongle unlocked and everything seemed to work fine, except that I later on realized that with the new carrier, I get like 50% packet loss when initiating connections, rendering DNS lookups etc to be extremely unreliable. I have been successfully running my pfsense with a 4G dongle (Huawei E392) for a couple of months.ĭue to an outage with my carrier, I decided to switch SIM-card to a pre-paid one temporarily, but realized that the modem was carrier-locked so had to take care of that.
